A couple months ago I read a post by Seth Godin entitled “Duck!“. In it he talks about avoiding the 2X4 to the face.

“You’re running it at it full speed, and in a moment, you’re going to slam into it, which is going to hurt, a lot.

When the doctor scrubs with soap before a procedure, it’s not because it’s fun. It’s because she’s investing a few minutes now to prevent sepsis later.”

We try to avoid these situations through planning, executing, and reflecting. All of which aim to solve problems at different times and improve the way we do things going forward. The earlier the risks are identified the less likely you hit that 2X4.

Every organization and team should be trying to continually improve and answering tough questions earlier rather than later will help us avoid that risk we identified as a looming 2X4.

Let’s have fun doing this Limbo or this HighJump

What issues would you bring up in a project 360 that we could fix to help avoid a 2X4? Do you have fond memories of Billy Madison?
